Malaysia primes itself for more events business with new resort

Just across the border from Singapore, Desaru Coast is unveiling itself as Malaysia’s most anticipated premium integrated resort.

Spanning a total area of over 3,900 acres along a 17 kilometre-long beachfront facing the South China Sea, Desaru Coast is gearing itself up for the continued rise of air travel and business events in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to Philip Whittaker, Chief Executive Officer – Integrated Theme Parks & Attractions (ITPA) and Chief Commercial Officer of Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn. Bhd., “bleisure” travel, in particular, has become an increasingly important segment, with business travellers adding vacation days to work-related travel and having their family or significant other join them.

Fully integrated business and leisure offerings

An accredited ICCA member, Desaru Coast’s potential as a preferred destination for meetings and incentives is boosted by its myriad of accommodation types, dining venues, attractions, and other leisure offerings.

The conference centre, centrally located in the hub of Desaru Coast and adjacent to The Westin Desaru Coast Resort, is a fully equipped multipurpose venue (managed by The Westin) that can host up to 1,000 participants.

Corporate meetings and events can be hosted in the destination’s other facilities including The Els Club Desaru Coast, and the Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark, which are designed to accommodate large groups and various team building programmes.

Guests participating in events at Desaru Coast’s resorts and hotels and its related facilities will also be able to enjoy breath-taking views of the sea and the surrounding golf courses, differentiating the destination from typical drab, windowless conference centres.

The attractiveness of Malaysia’s first integrated premium lifestyle destination is further enhanced by its location, being situated on the southern gateway to Malaysia with ease of access for both domestic and international travellers.

The Els Club Performance Golf Academy is also designed to accommodate corporate events and team-building programmes, as its unique design allows the course to be played in many different directions.

Venues and facilities in the integrated resort include:

Premium hotels:

The Westin Desaru Coast Resort

Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas

Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast

Golf courses and restaurants:

The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course (27 holes)

The Els Club Desaru Coast –  Valley Course (18 holes)

The Els Performance Golf Academy (includes a 9-hole Par 3 Course)

Two casual dining restaurants: Lembah Restaurant and 261 Bar & Restaurant

Attractions and others:

Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark

Desaru Coast Conference Centre

Desaru Coast Riverside

Outside of the integrated resort, groups would enjoy the destination’s other experiences, such as the Desaru Fruit Farm, Desaru Ostrich Farm and the Crocodile Farm, alongside a range of unique cultural and heritage spots. A range of major attractions are located nearby Desaru Coast including LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort, SANRIO HELLO KITTY TOWN and Thomas Town, Marina Walk Puteri Harbour and the Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) offering visitors further things to see and do during their stay at Desaru Coast.

Desaru Coast is opening its facilities in stages, which started with The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course in September 2016, and was followed by The Els Club Desaru Coast – Valley Course in March 2017. Other parts within the destination will be opened from end June 2018. This includes Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark, The Westin Desaru Coast Resort, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast and Desaru Coast Riverside.
