Disruption rewarded as innovative new show takes out top gong for a second consecutive year.
Get Global has been awarded the highly distinguished ‘Exhibition of the Year’ title at the Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) National Awards, presented in Brisbane this week – the second time the event has won the award in its short two-year history.
Get Global co-founders and directors, Gary Bender and Donna Kessler (main), say they are extremely proud of the accomplishments the show has achieved in such a short time.
“To win this esteemed award for a second time is phenomenal. The support and dedication shown by the industry, and the team who have helped us get the event off the ground, has been outstanding,” Bender says.
“Donna and I took a risk when we started the show and it’s humbling to be validated by our peers. We look forward to seeing everyone in July [for the show’s third edition].”
MEA Awards judges recognised Get Global’s growth year-on-year, the diversity of exhibitors, and the extremely high NPS received from exhibitors and delegates.
The one-day Get Global event provides an opportunity for event and incentive organisers in Australia to meet with international exhibitors in a casual business setting (no pre-scheduled appointments needed), network with peers, and share knowledge.
“Gary and I started Get Global out of a need to showcase more international product and to disrupt the regular cookie-cutter format of our industry shows,” Kessler says. “For Get Global to be recognised as ‘Exhibition of the Year’ twice is a monumental achievement.”
Additional winners at the 2018 MEA National Awards include the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC), scoring the ‘Best Meeting, Exhibition or Event Venue – capacity more than 500’ award; while the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) received the ‘Education and Training’ award and the ‘In-house Event Manager of the Year’ award, which was awarded to Dewi Gutierrez.
Forum Group Events & Marketing took home the award for ‘Corporate Event of the Year’ for the 2018 South Africa Tourism Event Roadshow, and ICMS Australasia won in the association event category for the IEEE 2018 International Conference on Robotics and Automation. Arinex was named ‘PCO of the Year’, while Belle Laide Events was crowned ‘Event Agency of the Year’.
Get Global 2019 will be held at the ICC Sydney on Friday 26 July.
