Japan’s newest convention centre to open in Nara

Nara Prefectural Convention Center scheduled to open this spring.

The Nara Prefectural Convention Center is scheduled to open this spring in one of the oldest cities in Japan’s Kansai region.

Located 90 minutes away from Kansai International Airport, the new venue features a large ballroom capable of seating 2,000 people, along with several small and medium-sized meeting rooms.

The JW Marriott Hotel Nara is also taking shape next door, and expected to open this year, making it the first JW luxury brand to launch in Japan.

These openings mark a series of new developments that will facilitate the hosting of larger conferences and events in Nara, known for its cultural attractions and world heritage sites.

Having joined the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) in 2019, Nara Prefectural Government is determined to strengthen the profile of the city as a MICE destination.

With the establishment of the UNWTO Regional Support Office for Asia and the Pacific (RSOAP) in Nara, it hopes to enhance the framework for cooperation with UNWTO, particularly in the culinary field.

There are also plans to engage in more collaborations with Nara Agriculture and Food International College (NAFIC).

Nara was selected by the Japan Tourism Agency in 2019 as Japan’s bidding city for UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism 2022.
