Crisis management strategies from industry leaders, and a recovery task force established in Singapore.
The coronavirus, officially named ‘Covid-19’, has already had a significant impact on the business events industry across Asia and the globe.
In an effort to mitigate long-term impact, the Singapore Tourism Board this week announced the establishment of a Tourism Recovery Action Task Force to rally various stakeholders, including business events professionals, to face what it describes as “the biggest challenge since SARS”.
While several events have been cancelled and postponed — including the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona — some are pushing ahead with heightened safety precautions. The Singapore Air Show is taking place this week at Changi Exhibition Centre, and The Global Space and Technology Convention took place last week at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
We attended the convention and spoke to the organising association, Singapore Space & Technology Association, about the planning process. We also spoke to global engagement agency Bi Worldwide, who shared insight on stakeholder management and internal team engagement during times of crisis, and recently sat down with SACEOS to understand how the association is assisting SMEs.
