Virtual awards ceremony streamed across the region this week.
French fine diner, Odette, in Singapore has taken top honours at the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2020 awards ceremony, retaining the coveted dual titles of The Best Restaurant in Asia and The Best Restaurant in Singapore for a second year.
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants director of content, William Drew, said: “We are, of course, experiencing unprecedented times both in the restaurant sector and across Asia as a whole. It is therefore more important than ever to support restaurants all over the continent in their recovery, to recognise each other’s achievements over the last 12 months, and broadcast a message of solidarity.”
The 2020 list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, which was announced in a virtual event streamed throughout the region, features seven new entries. Japan is the best-represented nation on the list, boasting 12 restaurants.
Odette chef and co-owner, Julien Royer (pictured), said the current coronavirus situation is “very unpredictable and scary”, but sent a message of solidarity to the hospitality industry.
“It’s important that we realise we’re all in the same boat: no matter the restaurant, the cuisine or where we are, it’s affecting us all,” he said.
“It’s a difficult situation, but we must realise that we have to put all our efforts together to ultimately carry on doing what we love and doing our job. It will happen only if we’re all together.”
