KNOWLEDGE SERIES : The Future of Work (Part 1) – Embracing the present for the future

In this episode of BEA CONVERSATIONS, we speak to Roshan Thiran, Founder and CEO of Leaderonomics, a social enterprise that supports and promotes leadership development.

Thiran describes what the future of work looks like and why it is important to embrace the current situation and make the best out of what we have, where possible. He believes the current work environment is merely an acceleration of Industry 4.0, a new phase in the industrial revolution that focuses heavily on interconnectivity, automation, machine learning, and real-time data.

As seen in the business events industry, more people are gearing towards the gig economy in this volatile environment, where there are more opportunities that allow professionals to grow and diversify their skillsets with a lesser risk of job and income loss as a full-time employee at a company.

“In this environment, it makes it even more important for companies to focus on outcomes. Fewer people are being employed as full-time employees and more people are becoming part of the value and supply chain as freelancers,” says Thiran.

He urges working professionals to find their niche and emphasises on the importance of adaptability to “unlearn and relearn, or learn new things”. He highlights several other critical soft skills needed for the current and future of work and provides advice for getting past fear during these uncertain times.
