South Korea – Grand Hyatt Incheon’s West Tower was recently awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a community of LEED developed and certified buildings.

In order to receive this certification, properties will be subject to the analysis of around 70 aspects of their building design, structure, maintenance, and operations.

The West Tower has contributed to the decrease of the hotel’s overall carbon dioxide emissions through the use of highly efficient products and LED lighting, and has used 100 percent of grey water to conserve fresh water normally consumed by gardening and flushing of toilets. Sick Building Syndrome has also been also minimised through the constant assessment of indoor-air quality, the use of eco-friendly materials and the proper ventilation of the entire building, even before it was opened.

Large-scale landscaping, including the event deck on the hotel’s second floor, prevents heat concentration while letting guests feel close to nature. The West Tower also offers superior indoor-air quality to create a pleasant atmosphere for guests.

Paul Wright, general manager at Grand Hyatt Incheon, said that the hotel’s LEED Gold Certification was a result of the team’s efforts even from its design phase, which took into consideration guests’ desire to “rest and do business in a pleasant environment”.

Opened in September 2014, Grand Hyatt Incheon’s West Tower was able to receive this recognition due to its design, building materials and environmentally friendly construction that were found to be much higher than the standards required.
