Korea sends strong message of interest to Indian business events community

Korea signalled a keen interest in India’s business events community with a promotional “India MICE Roadshow”, held on March 29 at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.

Jointly hosted by Seoul and the neighbouring city of Incheon and Gyeonggi Province, the one-day roadshow promoted the prime attractions of each region to the Indian meetings sector. Attended by around 200 media, government and corporate sector tourism professionals attended the event that featured a trade show in the day followed by a Korea-themed night of entertainment.

Choi Jong Hark, Vice-President, Korea Tourim Organization (KTO), and Sandeep Dutta, India Marketing Manager, KTO, addressed the attendees before moving on to destination presentations by the Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi convention bureaux.

The evening provided an opportunity for the hosts to highlight the distinct strengths of each region as travel and event destinations. These include Seoul’s well-developed meetings infrastructure, Incheon’s new Songdo International Business District and Gyeonggi’s natural assets and unique resort-style venues.

Other participants include Korean Air, which now offers an expanded service of five non-stop flights per week to Delhi, and Asiana which offers the service daily, and 40 major businesses within the Korea MICE Alliance network encompassing the country’s top event venues and service providers.

The highlight of the evening was a non-verbal live art performance by Drawing Show that is performed at many Korean-hosted international events. For Kapsoo Kim, Executive Director, Korea MICE Bureau it encapsulated the ways in which Korea can appeal to an international audience. He said, “Like NANTA, Drawing Show is also one of many non-verbal performances especially designed to communicate the fun of Korean culture without the need for words, making them especially great for international visitors.”

The India MICE Roadshow forms part of efforts by Korea to diversify the country’s inbound business events and leisure tourism sector in response to newly-growing feeder markets such as India and Muslim nations. The KTO will also be attending this month’s Arabian Travel Market, as well as tourism exhibitions in Kazakhstan, Malaysia, and Indonesia throughout 2017.
