Global – The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) raised the bar at its 2017 Convening Leaders in early January, attracting a record 4,175 delegates to the event in Austin, Texas.
An additional 1,500 delegates also attended Convening Leaders LIVE online and 180 meetings professionals who participated in a delayed broadcast of specific content tailored for the Asian audience. The demographics reflected the event’s growing international outlook with delegates attending from over 45 countries, up from 36 countries in 2016.
The programme’s central theme, Designing ColLABoration, featured throughout the three-day programme. From hands on multiple Learning Labs to featured speakers, each demonstrating how collaboration can enhance the quality and return for business events.
Convening Leaders was kicked off with 130 attendees participating in PCMA’s Hospitality Helping Hands for Sammy’s House, a not-for-profit agency in Austin for medically fragile or developmentally delayed children. The group worked on indoor and outdoor projects including playground repair, yard maintenance, toy sorting, sanitising classrooms and other general repairs and maintenance throughout the facility.
The PCMA Education Foundation sold out this year’s Party With A Purpose (PWAP) with over 1,600 donating participants. In its 24th year, PWAP has raised more than USD2.4 million for a range of notable causes as PCMA leads the business events industry’s efforts to make a difference in communities around the globe.
The Austin event raised more than USD200,000 that will be returned back to the industry for scholarships, grants and research. Post-party, Found and Sustaining Sponsor, GES presented a check for USD25,000 to the local Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.
Thailand has won the business to host two prestigious global events in 2017; the Professional Convention Management Association’s (PCMA) Global Professionals Conference for the Asia-Pacific region will convene for the first time in Southeast Asia, hosted in Bangkok, August 28 to 31, 2017.
According to PCMA, the Bangkok event will bring together 35 global planners from top associations and corporations along with 15 senior-level suppliers representing convention bureaux and centres from around the Asia Pacific region, including Australia.
Conference content will focus on offering a richer understanding of opportunities available across the Asia Pacific region, while demonstrating how to maximise the impact of business events.
