6,000 WorldVentures members from Asia Pacific landed in Hong Kong Disneyland Resort for a four-day premium corporate event to celebrate the direct selling travel club’s 10th anniversary in a mega theme park buyout.
CLIENT: WorldVentures DreamTrips
TYPE: Incentive travel
VENUE: Hong Kong Disneyland Resort
WHEN: June 21-24, 2016
PAX: 6,000
With its diverse range of entertainment offerings, including the first-in-Asia “Star Wars: Tomorrowland Takeover” experience, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort was considered as the ideal venue for the Mega DreamTrip contingent from Asia Pacific to gather for a once-in-a-lifetime event.
During the celebration, the guests fully enjoyed the one-day park buyout on June 22. Additionally, the resort’s Business Solutions & Events (BS&E) team was assigned to take care of every detail from conceptualisation to execution, making sure participants experience the heartfelt services and the Disney Difference at the highest standards.
On the park buyout day on June 22, an exclusive welcome moment and a stage show at Theater in the Wild were devised for the VIPs of the sizeable group. The 1,500 VIPs were made to feel special with a welcome moment, during which Disney’s Fab 8, led by Mickey and Minnie, accompanied the top executives of WorldVentures in a march-in. After a 15-minute captivating corporate programme, an exclusive Festival of the Lion King show was staged for the group.
With a diverse range of venues, over 100 entertainment offerings inside the theme park, two hotels providing various event spaces to stage events and 1,000 rooms to house participants, HKDL became the venue of choice for WorldVentures to stage their 10th-anniversary celebration.
More than 900 guests of the group who stayed at the resort’s two hotels had an initial taste of Disney Magic at the welcome dinner held on June 21 in the ballrooms of Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel Conference Center. The colourful Toy Story-themed birthday cake for celebrating WorldVentures’ anniversary, the cotton candy and popcorn stations at the elaborate buffet, and greetings by Disney Characters brought out the inner child of all attending guests.
During the park’s buyout day, a buffet dinner was served for the 1,500 VIPs across two themed lands – Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point. The resort’s award-winning culinary team created an impressive dining experience with a range of Asian and Western spreads and its signature range of sumptuous sweet treats. The other guests were also taken on a special culinary journey to sample more than 20 delicacies in the park, including Flying Saucer Snacks in Tomorrowland and Frozen Lollipops on Main Street, U.S.A.
A first for its corporate buyout events held at Hong Kong Disneyland, a unique farewell moment was arranged, during which the top echelon of the company travelled in an omnibus with beloved Disney Characters, followed by an entourage of senior executives parading along Main Street, U.S.A. for a farewell with fanfare. WorldVentures’ top executives made their goodbye speeches and toasted the success of the event on the platform of the Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad Station, which was complemented by professional Disney performers’ lively dance, ending the unique and unforgettable mega buyout night on a high note.
Since thousands of attendees flew in from all over Asia Pacific, 18 hotels were used to accommodate delegates, which was a monumental logistical effort to transport all of them to the theme park on the day of the park event and to ensure delegates were safely taken back to the right hotels after the event. This was done in meticulous order as the park is equipped with large parking areas for 100 coaches to arrive and depart at around the same time, and each participant was stylishly identified with one of the 18 unique event wristbands.
Four themed areas, Adventureland, Toy Story Land, Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point, were closed to day guests from 6pm for exclusive use by the group in order to manage guest flow during the park’s peak hours. Therefore, Hong Kong Disneyland had to communicate the closure to the public prior to the event and place signage throughout the venue as a reminder on the day and manage the flow of people.
The participants of a diverse age range had vastly different preferences for activities and dining choices. However, Hong Kong Disneyland’s appeal as a family destination catered to all age groups, together with HKDL Business Solutions & Events team’s strong corporate events planning experience, delivered a memorable journey for all ages with aplomb.
The success of the event was a testament to the resort’s capability in hosting large-scale business events. Leveraging Disney’s signature creativity and professional services, the event was well received by the guests and everyone had an enjoyable time. “Hong Kong Disneyland is an iconic attraction in Asia and the perfect venue for our company, WorldVentures, to hold an exclusive event. It was easily one of the most amazing trips our company has done in our ten years of business. The ‘Festival of the Lion King’ show was probably the best Disneyland show I have ever seen. The energy was wonderful and the show was so impactful. We are looking forward to coming back!” said Jon McKillip, President of Global Sales, WorldVentures.
“Today’s event in Hong Kong Disneyland really brought back my childhood memories. The overall arrangement and services were really well coordinated, especially the dining arrangement – the food and beverages served exceeded my expectations and I was in awe of all the food when I first came into the ballrooms. But what impressed me most were the people; they were extremely courteous and the service was fantastic!” said Sir Erwin A.C. Ng from Malaysia, Independent Representative, WorldVentures.
